Special Note Regarding All Volunteers for 2008

A separate Volunteer Application form (click here for a printable application) is required to be filled out for anyone who will participate in any manner with the running of the GCAA programs this year.  This process will be applicable to all sports run by the Garden City Athletic Association.

The purpose of the Volunteer Application form is so that the GCAA can perform a background check on the volunteers involved in the program and keep a record of the background checks conducted.  You may ask “Why are you doing this?”, and the answer is simply that limited background checks have been mandated by Little League Baseball for every town, village and organization which participates in its international programs.  It also necessary for the GCAA’s insurance coverage.  The background check will be limited solely to determining whether a volunteer is listed on a sex offender registry.

We realize that some people initially may hesitate at providing the requested personal information, however, it is necessary to make sure that the background check can be satisfactorily performed.  This new procedure has been instituted entirely for the benefit and protection of all of our children and, in that light, we believe it a worthwhile endeavor.  Please remember that for participation in the baseball or softball program we require that the Volunteer Application be filled out completely and that it bear the signature of the applicant.  Any form not complying with this rule cannot be processed and that individual will not be permitted to participate in our programs.
